Weekend getaway

Last weekend Dan went on a disc golfing excursion with his buddys. They played 3 different courses in 3 days.  He left Friday after work and returned Sunday around 5 pm.  Usually my sister stays with me when Dan leaves, but she was on her own vacation, so Ben and Allison graciously invited the boys and I to their house!  We had such a great time, Dan might have to leave more often!

Friday I took Dan to his friends house so they could carpool, then I drove to Ben and Allisons.  Allison helped me unpack the car and feed Caleb, then we went grocery shopping to get some food for the weekend.  We picked up Applebee's for dinner and ate it back home.

By the time dinner was over it was 8 pm, an hour past Jake's bed time.  I tried unsuccessfully to get Jake to sleep but because he was sleeping in a bed and not a crib (his very first time) and in a new place he would not fall asleep.  I allowed him to get up and play while Allison made us some cookies.

When the cookies were finished it was 10 pm, 2 hours after Jakes bedtime.  So I tucked him in and shut the door forcing him to fall asleep on his own.  He cried frantically and pounded on the door for 5 minutes, then finally climbed into the bed and finally fell asleep.  His crying broke my heart. It was hard to listen to.  I felt so bad leaving him alone in the dark in a new place but he wouldn't go to sleep if I stayed with him.  By him staying up that late, he took great naps and fell asleep early Saturday night.

Caleb had no problem adjusting to the new environment.  He was happy and all smiles.  He loved talking with Allison and would laugh with her.  He fell asleep at his normal bedtime so I didn't have to worry about him not sleeping also.
