Parenting

Everyone has a different style.   Parents do their best and parent according to what works with their family.  Yes, they sometimes are not aware of problems and friends and family offer advice, but actually telling them how to parent is a major turn off.

My parents have been on my case since the day Jake was born.  I can do no right.  I am constantly told how Jake is too attached to me and that he is a mamas boy.  I do not see a problem with this.  I love my child and I am so thankful that he can show his love for me.  I share every part of Jake's day with him.  I see him first thing in the morning, play all day with him, and see him before he's goes to bed.  I also spend every weekend with him, just me and him.  Dan is not around because he is working on the house every night and every weekend.  He is gone from 9-6, and is too tired to help with Jake. My family also never wants to see him.  They would rather do yardwork or other things than spend time with him. Therefore Jake is a mama's boy.

What am I suppose to do?  Ignore him on the weekends? Not talk and play with him?  Hire a babysitter so I can get away for a bit?  No, I am his mother and I have to care for him.  Just because he is a mama's boy now, doesn't mean he will be one in a year.  His personality is still developing and he is still learning about the world.  Who knows, maybe he will be so sick of me by the time he's one, that he won't want to play with him.

Please don't tell me how to parent.  You can offer advice and hints, but to tell me that he's a brat, or a mama's boy, or spoiled, or neglected, I probably already know that and am working on fixing the situation.

  1. Jake is not a brat or spoiled!!! He is a sweet 9 month old baby and there is absolutely nothing loving his mama that he depends on for everything!!!!! As a stay-at-home mom I am with my kids 24/7 - and there is nothing wrong with that! And like you said, just because he is a mama's boy now (which is normal), it doesn't mean he will always be one. Enjoy him while you can, because they grow up fast!
