Therapy- first week

This week Jake started his bi-weekly therapy sessions.  A therapist and her assistant came to the house on Tuesday, then Jake, Cal, and I went to the school for a group session on Thursday.  This is how it will be for the next 3 months.

Tuesday's session did not go how I expected.  The therapist sat and took notes while I played with Jake.  She interacted a couple of times, but didn't do much else.  Maybe she's getting a feel for Jake and his routine, but there was no speech therapy happening.  I hope it improves next week.

Thursday's session was a bit better therapy-wise.  He is in a class with 5 other children around his age.  Jake had the most speech capabilities, but the worst behavior. He refused to sit for circle time and cried until it was over.  He did better in the large motor room where he was able to run around and play with new toys.  He also did well with the small motor activities.  He loved cutting play dough, pouring and scooping in the sensory table and working with puzzles.  I did notice that he stayed well away from the other children.  If someone else came into his space, he would move on to another activity.  He melted down again for closing circle and I had to fight to keep him involved. I really hope he behaves better in the upcoming weeks and starts to participate instead of crying.

  1. Hopefully both of you get the hang of this therapy stuff! I know it can be a hard adjustment for both mom and boy!
