The end of our weekend

Sunday we didn't feel like sitting around the house all morning so we packed up and headed to town to play on a different playground, geared toward younger children.  We spent lots of time there due to Jake finally being able to climb without help.  I was able to stay on the ground and watch instead of having to hover over him.

After the playground we took a walk around town.  We still didn't feel like going home so we went to target to waste time and because the boys were behaving so well.

During our shopping I got a text from Dan saying he would be home by 1 pm.  We quickly left, got everyone lunch, put the boys to nap and I picked up Dan while Jenny watched the boys.

Thank you so much Jenny for staying with us all weekend.  The boys love you and have a great time with you.  All of us would love to have a play date and to see you at least once a week!

We love Aunt Jenny

Action weekend continued

Saturday morning we went to my parents house.

We ate lunch there then hurried home for nap time.  When we woke up we went to get a floor aircondtion unit (which didn't work).  We stopped to play at a playground but it was so hot and too old for the boys to enjoy.  We didn't spend very long there.

Our next stop was to Walmart to get some food and toys.  We picked up dinner on our way home and spent the evening playing with the boys and watching Orange is the New Black.

Action packed weekend

Last weekend Dan took his annual disc golf men's trip leaving me and the boys for 3 and a half days.  I was planning on staying home by myself, but Jenny offered to stay for the weekend.  I didn't ask her because I would have felt guilty having her there all weekend.  She has her own life and her own responsibilities and I didn't want to keep her from them.  But she offered and I took her up on it.  Thursday night she brought me dinner and then we played with the boys.

Friday we went to the zoo.  Everyone had so much fun!  Jake behaved very well and was interested in seeing the animals.  Most animals were out so we got a look at quite a few.

We had to take a break and eat a picnic lunch, then finished seeing the rest of the animals

Our favorite was the seals and polar bears.  The seals seemed to be within touch distance and both boys were rivitedated.

Both boys behaved so well.  I was so proud that Jake was interested in the animals and actually stuck close to Jenny and I when he wasn't in the stroller.  They both fell asleep on the way home!

We took it easy the rest of the afternoon.  We played outside, had an early dinner and fell asleep quickly.

Touch a truck

Today at our local library they set up Touch a Truck.  Basically vehicles found in a community are brought to the library so children can look and interact with them.  I signed Jake up for it months ago not thinking about how we were going to get there in case someone was using the car.  Luckily Jenny was around and took the boys and I.

We got there 5 minutes before it started and it was already packed.

There was a plow, a Hearst, mail truck, ambulance, police car, and 2 fire trucks.  Jake knew they were trucks and at first was excited to see them, but he had to wait in line if he wanted to sit in the truck.  He DID NOT like waiting.  He cried the entire waiting time.  Once he was able to sit, he enjoyed looking at everything and touching everything.

He quickly became overwhelmed and confused and melted down.  (Yes, I know most of my posts are about him melting, but I'm not going to pretend my children are perfect.  He is rarely in social situations and does not know how to handle it.  I think if I take him to more things he will learn how to behave.)

Cal was just along for the ride.  He had no idea what was going on and was content to sit and watch.

I'm proud that Jake was able to comprehend what was going on, but disappointed that he melted so quickly.  I think more social trips are in order.

Hummingbirds

Last year we put out a hummingbird feeder under our huge Catalpa tree.  We maybe got one bird all summer.  Dan did a lot of research on how to attract and keep hummingbirds coming back and this year implemented it.  We moved the feeder to the fron year and made a water/sugar mixture instead of food.

Within a couple of days we got our first visitor

It's really hard to take pictures of these little birds. They are so quick and fly away as soon as they sense movement. In these photos the bird is on the left side of the feeder between the pole.  We noticed that there are 3 different birds.  A male an female and a very tiny female.

This one is sitting on top of the Shepards crook.

We also noticed that they have very strange feeding habits.  Some days they are constantly at the feeder, hovering, sitting, eating.  Some days we don't see any of them.  We love watching for them.  They are beautiful birds and it's amazing how fast they are.
